SMF X The Brilliant Club
The Brilliant Club works to support students who are less advantaged to access the most competitive universities and succeed when they get there.
In Wales today, only 4% of young people from low participation areas progress to the most competitive universities, compared to 22% of students from high participation areas. The pandemic has further exacerbated these inequalities, affecting students from the least affluent backgrounds most severely.
Through The Brilliant Club’s Scholars Programme, students work with a subject-expert PhD tutor and are supported to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to progress to the most competitive universities. Since launching the programme in Wales in 2016, The Brilliant Club have supported over 3,000 students to take part in the programme. In 2020/21, a UCAS analysis of Scholars Programme graduates in Wales found that 46% progressed to a competitive university, significantly higher than peers in matched control groups.
